Addressing Boston’s Phase 2 Roll Back

As many of you probably heard, the City of Boston announced today (Monday, December 14) that they will be rolling back to Phase 2 of the Commonwealth’s reopening plan starting Wednesday, December 16 and running through January 6. This impacts Healthworks Back Bay, Healthworks Community Fitness and Republic Fitness. Our other clubs, including Healthworks Coolidge Corner, Cambridge and Chestnut Hill and GymIt are not impacted.

The public health data is clear that gyms can be operated safely and many jurisdictions, such as New York and Chicago, have allowed them to stay open. We are disappointed that Boston didn’t follow the public health data, but we plan to comply fully with this order. Healthworks Back Bay members will have full access to all other Healthworks locations during this temporary partial closure.

Starting Wednesday, December 16, we will no longer have open gym time available at Back Bay and Republic Fitness. We are allowed to continue to offer private 1-on-1 sessions, and if you are already doing so in these clubs, your trainer will be in touch with you. If you aren’t currently doing personal training sessions but are interested in giving this a try, please reply directly to this email.

In addition to comply with this order, classes will continue to operate for 1 person as a private session and can be booked online or in the app. Massage services will also continue to operate but showers will be no longer available.

Please note that the changes outlined above are expected to run for 3 weeks and we expect to continue to learn more details and will communicate them as soon as we have them.
